BEHIND THE BRAND

Water's Most Unwanted is a STEAM-powered initiative by the team at Risk Edge, where we blend science, technology, engineering, art and maths to make water quality knowledge more accessible, creative, and fun!

We're not here to lecture. We're here to make learning sticky.

Join the curious crowd navigating our not-so-clear waters.

Use it. Share it. Start something.

Contaminant

Methylisoborneol

AKA: “Swamp perfume”, “wet socks”, MIB.

Crimes: Leaving a bad taste in your mouth and a musty smell in your glass. MIB doesn’t make you sick – but it sure makes your water unwanted.

Hang-outs: Found chilling with algae and bacteria in lakes, reservoirs, and water tanks. Loves warm weather and nutrient-rich waters.

Danger: Although non-toxic, makes safe water seem unsafe. It’s tough to get rid of – regular treatment doesn’t faze it – keeping water crews busy and budgets stretched.

Protection: If it’s too hard to swallow, use an activated carbon filter to catch MIB before it hits your mouth.

Look out for our ever-expanding Rogues' Gallery and case files, because you never know what might be lurking in your water.
