BEHIND THE BRAND

Water's Most Unwanted is a STEAM-powered initiative by the team at Risk Edge, where we blend science, technology, engineering, art and maths to make water quality knowledge more accessible, creative, and fun!

We're not here to lecture. We're here to make learning sticky.

Join the curious crowd navigating our not-so-clear waters.

Wear it. Share it. Start something.

Contaminant

Harmful Algal Blooms

AKA: Cyanobacteria, Blue-green Algae.

Crimes: Fixing nitrogen one minute, poisoning your water the next - spicing things up with a side of toxins, making your water unsafe for drinking, swimming, or even watering your garden! Also known to instigate the occasional fish-kill party through oxygen depletion.

Hang-outs: Found naturally in every moist environment such as damp soils, lakes, ponds and slow moving rivers.

Danger: Skin irritation and allergic reactions to severe liver, neurological damage and animal deaths. Toxins are implicated in cancer.

Protection: Pay attention to public health advisories, do not swim or allow your pets to access water subject to high risk alerts, be aware of and do not enter water with ‘musty’ smells and surface scums, do not drink untreated water.

Look out for our ever-expanding Rogues' Gallery and case files, because you never know what might be lurking in your water.
