TSS, particulates, cloudiness

The Eye Destroyer, trophozoite

Crimes

TSS clouds water, clogs filters, and carries unwelcome hitchhikers like microbes, nutrients and metals. They also smother aquatic habitats when they finally settle.

Hang-outs

Find them in stormwater after rain and bushfires, on construction sites with exposed soil, in agricultural runoff, and throughout wastewater systems.

Danger

They hide germs from disinfectants, block sunlight in rivers and lakes, and act as tiny delivery vans for pollutants, driving their unwanted load straight into our water sources.

Protection

Stop them at source with erosion controls, keep stormwater and wastewater systems maintained, and rely on sedimentation and filtration to take them down. Regular monitoring, especially after storms, helps stop them sneaking past.
